John Parr is certainly best known as the man who made the horrible movie St. Elmo's Fire almost worth watching. The Brat Pack graduates from Georgetown and discovers life is messy and confusing. But Parr doesn't let a lame movie get in the way of his kick-ass song, "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)," which is full of inspirational eagles, punchy horns, a slightly hoarse bravado and a rocking mullet. Fast-forward 25 years: Parr is releasing Letter to America, his first album since the mid-'80s, this week. The Englishman is now touring the U.S., and while he can still rock, he's also added delicate ruminations on acoustic guitar to his repertoire.
