Jimmy Haggard

When: Fri., Jan. 3, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $5
West Coast native Jimmy Haggard spent years pogoing between jobs—accountant and marketer, IT manager and cowboy, laborer and cook. But during those four decades he never stopped making music; at last, the 59-year-old blues rocker is in a position to give it more of his attention. He's released a few albums in the last three years and recently opened a studio and rehearsal space in Raleigh. His gruff, wiry vocals recall Warren Zevon, while the music steeps in electric blues, with elements of Americana, funk and psychedelia stretching the sound. —Chris Parker
