It takes a dynamic, talented woman to compose a song about giving a brotha the blue balls and make it one of the more listenable numbers on her album. But that's exactly what Jill Scott does on The Light of the Sun. It's on the aptly titled track "Making You Wait" where she plays hard-to-get with her intended, holding out to make sure he's worthy of her time, cooing at the end, "I'm worth it, I'm worth it." We're sure that fans of the Philadelphia-bred progressive-soul songstress could sympathize with the poor sap in the song. With her last album dropping in 2007, Scott seemed so busy starring in Tyler Perry movies and other projects that even she was wondering along with her fans when she would get back in the recording studio. For her fourth such effort, Scott gets back into her usual groove, first doing songs that emphasize her feminine, independent boldness, then sliding into the sensual ditties where she's in full-on man-pleasing mode. She'll be performing most of her new stuff—as well as her classics, no doubt—at Jill Scott's Summer Block Party, with Mint Condition, Anthony Hamilton, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Doug E. Fresh also on the bill. —Craig D. Lindsey
