It does our hearts good to see a Duke alum and Triangle resident joining the elite ranks of published YA dystopian science fiction authors. Forget having The Hunger Games (the first one, anyway) filmed in the mountains—we have our own franchise now! Props to Jenna Black, whose new novel Replica deals with the relationship between a teen who enjoys a privileged life as paparazzi fodder in the "Corporate States" and the son of the creator of "replicas," backup copies of humans. When he gets killed, she has to team up with his replica to solve his murder. Intriguing—and without vampires, fallen angels or mer-people. We see potential in you, Ms. Black.
