I dont believe that 16 -17 yr olds are mentally equipped to be incarcerated with adults. My daughter was harassed...bullied...pushed on...verbally abused by inmates ranging from 27 to 40 yrs old.and the guards..
Juvenile facilities offer and have programs and counseling that are suitable for minors.
NC law says at 16 "criminally" your an adult.
No.. If they cant vote.. Rent an apt. Buy cigarettes..they are not adults! Again most 16 17 year olds are not mentally prepared to live on their own.. Pay bills.. And some dont even know laws that well...
No minor should be in durham county jail period...
And i think they need to change the requirements needed to be employed in their facility. Esoecially when they employ guards straight out of high school..with a short training from the facility..some of these guards are seen in the community with gang members.. Smoking weed...etc...
Guards having "relationships" with inmates.. And making jealous commemts to inmates...this place is totally unprofessional!
