Re: “In Wayne County, N.C., Trump’s America Is Angry

SANEJAM, you hit the nail on the head with this statement "White people think they should be able to drop out of HS, get no training or additional education, and not have to "lower themselves" to do the kind of work many people from Mexico are proud to do and do well instead of halfway."

Re: “In Wayne County, N.C., Trump’s America Is Angry

I visited Mount Olive for the first and last time in September of this year with my Daughter, Granddaughter, and Grandson to visit my Daughter's family on her Father's side. I am White, and my Daughter is Black and White, as are my Grandchildren. We were less than one mile in to town, when the police who we passed (doing the speed limit), raced up behind us, and were on our bumper all the way to our hotel. I am a Disabled Veteran, with Florida license plates that CLEARLY say Disabled Veteran on them. When I explained what happened to the White woman who worked the front desk at the hotel she said "oh, yeah these police are really racist here." However, what really made me mad/sad was my Daughter's family when they said "Oh yeah, they do that all the time." Really? All. The. Time. People that I know and love are subjected to this all the time, and its been normalized for them. I saved my receipts from my trip there, and I spent around $700.00 in Mount Olive. I will never spend another dime in that town, and I make sure to let anyone I know hear about what my family experienced there. That's not the way you treat visitors because they don't look like you. Just because you're poor and ignorant, or in a position of power (police) it doesn't give you an excuse to be racist.
