Charlotte artist Brad Thomas says that his new exhibition, Full Bleed, is "a romp through the psyche of an artist." For over 12 years, Thomas has created journals from pre-existing books. He began his journal keeping with Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People, writing, collaging and painting within the book's boundaries. When the journals became too crammed with found objects, images, clippings and photographs, he taught himself to rebind the overstuffed books. According to Thomas, his volumes became fragile containers for his "fears, hopes, desires, criticisms, observations and ideas." His new collection of mixed-media works puts the viewer into the position of voyeur, peering into this self-portrait of an artist ("Reacher Redux" is pictured). Full Bleed also marks an evolution in Thomas' journal keeping. Here he has created large-scale reproductions of selected pages from his journals, revealing what he calls his "dirty little secrets."
