The tragedy to beat all tragedies is here. The Aquila Theater Company of London will present Sophocles' Oedipus the King
(promo poster pictured) to Duke's Page Auditorium Saturday, Jan. 29. Why should you see this
particular performance of the classic? Let's just say that exaggerated and expressive masks, modeled from representations on Grecian urns and a new, contemporary translation of the play from the original Greek bring an intriguing mix of classicism and currentness to the timeless tale. Aquila is currently the company in residence at the Center for Ancient Studies at New York University, a title that should reassure fencepost sitters of their credentials. The plays are savagely researched and the performers are electric. Oedipus
is guaranteed to be one of the more interesting performances you've seen in centuries. Call 684-4444 for tickets.
