Monet is known for having painted the same landscape, from the same angle, but at various times of the day, and in different seasons, in an attempt to capture the effects of varying light on the same trees, ponds and fields. Durham artist Emily E. Weinstein has taken the opposite approach, painting a variety of subjects from different angles, but all under the eerie, silver glow of the moon.
The Louise Jones Brown Gallery in Duke University's Bryan Center will be exhibiting some of Weinstein's paintings (pictured) from Feb. 19 through March 17. The gallery will also host a public reception for Weinstein on Feb. 23, from 5-7 p.m., during which she will sign copies of Moon Book, a series of images and text presented as a volume documenting the contents of her traveling gallery exhibition.
