Remember VH1's reality TV series Bands on the Run
? Well, besides winners Flickerstick, it seems that all-girl group Harlow
, known for their goth threads, subtle song titles ("Mike Hunt"--repeat quickly for full effect) and the dramas of its bisexual lead singer, are back
. The L.A.-based quartet reunited with band pal and producer Pat Smear (Germs, Foo Fighters) and just released their debut disc, Harlowland
, no doubt full of their angsty, dirge-like compositions. They're also hitting the highways for a U.S. tour. Self-described as "The Cult meets Valley of the Dolls
," what the Harlow ladies lack in talent they make up for in attitude. See them Tuesday, April 2, at The Brewery in Raleigh. Call 834-7018 for details.
OK, whimsically inclined indie popsters, this is your show: Marshmallow Coast
, the brainchild of Of Montreal
drummer Andy Gonzales, is a Kindercore band with ties to the Elephant 6 collective. Gonzales writes twee, orchestrated pop: Imagine Schroeder trying to teach Linus a piece by Erik Satie. Besides being Athens-based and having overlapping members, Of Montreal and Marshmallow Coast are currently sharing a monthlong U.S. tour. Local rockers Transportation open. See them Tuesday, April 2, at Go! Room 4 in Carrboro. Call 969-1400 for details.
