In the clubs
Gainesville, Fla.'s House of Ma isn't exactly your average "drag show." Sure, there's big hair, elaborate choreography, makeup and stage clothes, but the touring lesbian drag troop (usually numbering between six to 10 members) send up such testosterone-imbued male groups as KISS, Motley Crüe and mustachioed Wild West types along with such female icons as Madonna, Gloria Gaynor and Cher. Boasting a repertoire of over a hundred ditties (lip-synched, of course), House of Ma has mounted a dozen or so full-scaled, themed extravaganzas (including events featuring The Butchies and cult hero/poet Eileen Miles).
