What with their "Doctor Evil" song for Austin Powers: The Spy who Shagged Me, and their recent single, "Boss of Me," (written for the hit TV show Malcolm in the Middle) getting spins on commercial radio, quirky Brooklyn duo They Might Be Giants (pictured) are close to becoming a household word. Not bad for John Linnell and John Flansburgh, the offbeat pair who single-handedly made accordions and cleverly poindexterish humor acceptable for rock bands. In the mid- to late-'80s, their literate, musically innovative albums spawned such college radio and MTV staples as "Ana Ng" and their cover of '50s novelty song "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)." These days, TMBG performs in various guises ranging from the original two-man line-up to a full band with an eight-piece brass orchestra. Catch them as a five-piece when they perform at The Ritz this Sunday, March 18. Call 836-8535 for details.

Even with albums on Matador--indie's most esteemed label--as well as plenty of musical cred, Oakland-cum-Memphis quartet Fuck (pictured) have had a hard time getting their music to the peeps. Maybe it has something to do with their name. At any rate, their latest album, Cupid's Cactus (released on Smells Like Records) has a Will Oldham, Palace vibe with a dash of Calexico. After this tour, it's farewell to live Fuck as the band leaves the road for the studio. In other words, if Fuck means anything to you, head down to Go! Room 4 Wednesday, March 21, to catch their farewell tour. Call 969-1400 for more information. --Angie Carlson
