As if a statewide drought and West Nile outbreak aren't enough, a local county in North Carolina will soon be faced with a killer bee invasion. Cappadonna
(pictured), 10th member of the famed Wu-Tang Clan, descends on the Triangle to judge West End Worldwide's "Back 2 School Talent Showcase"
this Saturday, Aug. 24. The concert gives hip-hop, rock, R&B, gospel and comedian acts a chance to perform before A&R reps, and features a performance by the lyrical stinger himself. Conceived by artist, producer and songwriter Ra'Mel "G-Mone" Gee, who has produced tracks for Capone & Noriega and Tragedy, and partner C.J., owner and operator of the Durham School of Boxing, a community youth organization, the showcase hopes to demonstrate to kids that the music industry is ripe with opportunities. A $500 cash prize also goes to the lucky winner. The showcase will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the Durham Armory Civic Center, off Geer Street and Avondale Avenue in Durham. Ticket prices are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Contact G-Mone at 419-9632 or C.J. at 624-9870. Bring your talent and applause. Leave the insect repellant at home. --olufunke moses
