In spoken word
Poetry slams and spoken word venues have been springing up all over the Triangle in the last couple of years. This weekend, Artspace in Raleigh offers a new monthly forum for rhyming wordsmiths to show their stuff. Stammer! A Robust Evening of Performance Poetry will make its debut Friday, August 25. Featured local poets will perform non-competitively, reading for five minutes each. If you´re feeling brave, sign up at the door for the open mic portion of the evening, reserved for audience members ready to read. Emceed by Steve Goldsmith with music by Raleigh´s swingin´ Standard Combo, Stammer! begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $4, $3 for students. For more information call Artspace, 821-2787. --Clancy Nolan
