Tell most folks you're going to see
Jay Farrar (pictured), and you'll likely hear "Who's that?" Tell the same crowd you're going to see the guy from Uncle Tupelo that's not the sad bastard fronting Wilco, and they'll understand. Such is the unfortunate case for Farrar, who's bright sessions with the Tupelo-rebound crew known as Son Volt rendered some rather memorable, albeit overlooked moments. His "experiment" solo trials have often been confused and confusing, but his latest effort, the sublimely beaten gorgeously crafted "Terroir Blues" is nearly perfect, casting an alt.country-meets-space rock glow on some of the finest numbers Will Johnson has not yet written.
