One of the hottest up-and-coming writers in North Carolina, Wendy Brenner will be trucking up from her Wilmington home for a Second Sunday reading at UNC-Chapel Hill with poet Jim Clark. If you've missed Brenner's frequent contributions to The Oxford American and New Stories From the South, the reading will be a great introduction to an author Michael McFee calls "compulsively readable." Brenner's collection, Large Animals in Everyday Life, won the 1996 Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction, and the author was one of the lucky few to win an NEA grant before the endowment's possible extinction. Sharing the bill with Brenner, Jim Clark has published two books of poems, Dancing on Canaan's Ruins and Handiwork, with St. Andrew's College Press. The free reading takes place at the Wilson Library on Jan. 14 at 2:30 p.m. Call 962-3461 for details.
