A tizzy of benefit activity is slated for the weekend throughout Triangle clubs in an effort to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina victims. Yep Roc hosts at least three of its acts--Cities, Chris Stamey and American Princes--at Local 506 on Friday, Sept. 23. The Triangle's hardest soft rockers, The Wusses, make their Triangle debut on the bill. Susan Cowsill, an ex-Continental Drifter who lost everything save two guitars in the wake of Katrina, plays a special early show Friday at The Pour House, the same day that Raleigh's Blue Martini hosts a Katrina benefit in its parking lot. A score of rockers--from Nathan Asher & The Infantry to SpencerAcuff--and bluesmen--from Abe Reid & The Spikedrivers to Cool John Ferguson--convoke at the Cat's Cradle on Saturday, Sept. 24 to raise money for the Red Cross and for the local Music Maker Relief Foundation, which is busy providing direct assistance to New Orleans musicians. Kings has assembled a stellar benefit for Saturday, too: The Countdown Quartet, The Old Ceremony, Patty Hurst Shifter, My Dear Ella and more join from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Patty Hurst Shifter, who just recorded an album in New Orleans, will also join Kenny Roby's Mercy Filter and more for a benefit Saturday evening outside of Cary's Connolly's Irish Pub, and Raleigh's Bickett Gallery hosts Goldteeth's Melvyn Brown and Mothlight's Danny Vaughn on Saturday as part of a two-day benefit. But The Lincoln Theatre's line-up for Sunday, Sept. 25 is the most enticing, as it comes stocked with rarities, including an appearance by Chip Robinson's The Vibekillers and a reunion of Roby's Six String Drag. The bill also includes Arrogance, The Woods, Two Dollar Pistols, Tres Chicas, Hobex and Patty Hurst Shifter, and doors open at 1 p.m. And, on Tuesday, the Cradle hosts another benefit for Katrina, this time organized by area high schoolers.
