Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour's Egypt is a musical celebration of Sufi mysticism steeped in vocal devotionals and the rich melodies and rhythms of the Fathy Salama's 14-piece Cairo Orchestra. A griot and a storyteller at heart, N'Dour says the Grammy award winning Egypt, being performed Tuesday, Nov. 1 as part of the world voices series at UNC's recently renovated Memorial Hall, emphasizes the diversity and tolerance of Islam at a time when his religion has been distorted and misunderstood.
