In musica bailable

Two local friends of world music, Efrain Ramirez and Jack Wolf, team up to promote Appalachia's hottest Latin band in the Triangle Saturday, March 27. Solazo , whose last album is aptly titled Mindful Journeys, transplanted themselves from South America to Floyd County, Va. for its unusual combination of rural lifestyle and thriving community of traditional artists. Solazo is versatile--playing everything from Peruvian glam rock to Cuban son--and their sound is mainly built around guitars, vocal harmonies, and percussion. Durham percussionista Beverly Botsford sits in with Solazo at Montas for an early set of musica bailable--from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. only, so don't be late or you'll miss it! They're working on songs for a new album that promise to keep dancers happy. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and a complimentary salsa lesson begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $15 for the general public ($13 for members of Montas Lounge). Solazo fans can stay all night for the tropical DJ lineup, and anyone arriving after 10 p.m. pays regular club admission. For tickets contact Jack at 245-0822 or Efrain at 542-1148; for information:
