LOOM 3: LABELER is an exhibition of more than 40 local and national artists curated by UNC-Chapel Hill professor (and occasional political lightning rod) elin o'Hara slavick and Jeff Waites. According to slavick, the show, which includes an additional 2,000 square feet of exhibition space, explores themes of labeling, labor and post-industrial sites, including a kitchen drilled full of holes, a 30-foot-long melted freeze-pop, the sound machines of the late Randy Ward, an upside-down harp suspended from the ceiling, a ladder made out of hair, and, well, you get the picture.
Artists include Lump Lipshitz, Laura Sharp Wilson, Jeff Whetstone, Laura Ballance, Jim Kellough, and many others.
The show opens Saturday, May 22, from 5-10 p.m. with an 8 p.m. dance performance by Caroline Williford, with Amy Beth Schneider. It closes a week later on Saturday, May 29, with a 5-10 p.m. event featuring performances by Paperhand Puppet Intervention and a concert by the Carolina Catbirds at 8 p.m.
