Grady Tate's annual jazz fest brings the swing with two of traditional jazz's cherished artists: flutist Hubert Laws and pianist Ellis Marsalis. Since the '60s, Laws' flute has peppered the works of Chic Corea (on the mighty Is sessions) to Quincy Jones to New York Philharmonic's leading soloist. Outside of fathering jazz's first family, Marsalis has educated a generation in the classroom and with his lofting modern and bop piano playing. The 15th Annual Grady Tate Jazz Festival takes place Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 at Duke Auditorium on NCCU's campus in Durham. Hubert Laws Group will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, and Marsalis Quartet will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Advance tickets are $25, $20 seniors and faculty, $10 students.
