Poetry performances in the Triangle are often limited to sit-down readings in bookstores. The North Carolina Poetry Grand Slam
aims to change all that. Now in its second year, the event offers a stage for 20 of the best street poets in the Southeast to battle toward a $500 prize. Sound like your thing? There's still a chance to get involved. Seven slots are available for poets who register on the day of the event, with a lottery planned if excess people sign up. The rest of the performance slate will be filled by pre-registrants, two hand-picked poets and reigning Slam champion H2O of Winston-Salem. The event, which will be held Saturday, July 17 at the Triad Stage in Greensboro, is free and open to the public. Organizers expect a capacity crowd, so be sure to arrive early.
