Something about the exaggerated repose of a large woman on top of a tiny, perfect car makes MaryLou Higgins
' piece "My Dream Machine" (pictured right) both irresistible and sad. One of the greatest American love affairs, cars and people have a complicated symbiosis, and Higgins, whose father was a traffic manager, has captured that relationship in her current show at Somerhill Gallery. In addition to a series of sculptural figures supported on the tops of hand-formed classic cars, the award-winning North Carolina artist will exhibit figurative stoneware vessels. The show runs until Nov. 18; call 968-8868 for more information.
