In fundraisers

PineCone, the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music and the Southend Brewery and Smokehouse present Summerfest, the second annual PineCone fundraiser, this Saturday, June 22, from 6-10 p.m. The event will be held at the Southend Brewery. Once again, attendees will be able to join the Southend "mug club," with a $10 donation going to PineCone for each mug sold. The family-oriented event kicks off the nonprofit organization's membership drive. There'll be a buffet line and live entertainment with Al Batten and The Bluegrass Reunion, along with DJ Larry Nixon (from the PineCone Bluegrass Show) and his old-time guitar trio Nixon, Blevins and Gage. PineCone is the largest--and busiest--organization of its kind in North Carolina and is dedicated not only to preserving folk performing arts, but in presenting them to the public. Call 990-1902 for details.

DiamondDiamondDiamondBark Aid is a benefit at the Lincoln Theatre put on by German Shepherd Rescue and Adoptions organization, dedicated to saving German Shepherd dogs and pups and finding them good homes. Doors open at 4 p.m., with live music by The Magic Pipers, Travis Procter and more. The event takes place this Sunday, June 23. For details, visit gsdrescue.org. --Angie Carlson
