Several emcees and spoken-word artists have been carrying the message of the 2ND ANNUAL SPOKEN WORD & HIP HOP FESTIVAL into Durham communities all week, but the seven-day event comes back to its Hayti Heritage epicenter this weekend. The Liquid Lounge Tour joins Marc Bamuthi Joseph--who presents his choreopoem Word Becomes Flesh--for a night of spoken word on Friday at 8 p.m. Saturday's workshops range from graffiti to DJing and begin at 9 a.m., followed by a discussion of hip hop as a weapon at 4 p.m. That's an appropriate preamble for the 8 p.m. performance by Shelly B, TWIP and Dead Prez, a Florida duo managing to move the braggadocio of race politics and hip hop to the edge of the mainstream. Two hip-hop movies--Chris "Play" Martin's Holy Hip Hop and the Snoop Dogg-narrated Letter to the President--start screening at 2 p.m. on Sunday, followed by a regular Hayti specialty, Fantastic 4, at 6 p.m. On deck for this installment: Mic and Rep, a teenage Durham duo flipping on the streets and the homeplace, and Eye 95 Entertainment, a new multi-man crew going at it with beats, soul and smart rhymes.
