In addition to great classical and jazz, your options are plentiful when it comes to rock, blues, folk and country, too. If you're looking to rock out, try Spring Fling at Kings in Raleigh (April 22 and 23), where the acts include The Young Idea, NYC's The Assault, Fashion Design, The Spinns, Chrome-Plated Apostles and the Ghost of Rock. There's also Sparklefest at Local 506 in Chapel Hill (April 21-23)--Mike Nicholson's annual paean to pop featuring the likes of Mitch Easter, The Nevers, Parthenon Huxley, Patty Hurst Shifter and Terry Anderson. And if you really want to head up the country, head out to Chatham County for the Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival (April 21-24), where Donna the Buffalo hosts more than 20 local and national acts like Nickel Creek, Big Fat Gap, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Mamadou Diabate and a health dose of zydeco acts.
