The accidental dance festival gets underway Sunday afternoon as the NCCU Dance Company performs at the Walker Complex Gymnasium on the Central campus at 4 p.m.--which is also when Choreo Collective presents their Dance Sampler at Durham Arts Council.
Choreo's fall benefit concert traditionally includes acts of interest from around the region, and a peek at their own work in progress. In this year's edition, Laura Thomasson's At Your Service explores life in the service culture, before a group called Brazilian Sensation corrects our Hollywood-fed misconceptions about that allegedly forbidden dance, lambada. Susan Cantwell presents Fragile, her new quartet, and Susan Quinn shows what she's been up to with her Cardinal Gibbons dance students lately, after Niharika P. Bansal demonstrates Bharathanatyam, a classical Indian dance form.
These two down leaves six to go, next Thursday through Sunday. We'll have more on them next week. Byron Woods
