Son of Zydeco pioneer Clifton Chenier, C.J. Chenier (pictured right) was playing sax and piano in a cover band when his father asked him to join his Red Hot Louisiana Band. As diabetes began to sap Chenier Sr.'s strength, he taught his son accordion, passing on the revamped Zydeco tradition that he pioneered. Today, C.J. and the Red Hot Louisiana Band play the hottest blend of rockin' cajun/creole stomp in the business. Blues/Zydeco hybrid chef Mel Melton opens. It'll be a reunion--Melton played with hot-shot Louisiana guitarist Sonny Landreth and C.J. in a band called Bayou Rhythm and also played with Chenier Sr. --Grant Britt

Kurt Heasley has led the Lilys through numerous lineups and styles in the last decade, from dream pop through mid-'60s mod to their latest incarnation, which bridges psychedelic pop and the British Invasion rock of the Kinks. His latest, Precollections (Manifesto), modulates between warm, folksy jangle and deeper psychedelic explorations, sounding at times like a late-'80s college rock band. But it's Ray Davies who Heasley channels most, right down to the North London accent. --Chris Parker
