In North Carolina, at least four people become infected with HIV every day. Tragically, half of those infected are under the age of 25. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the appearance of AIDS in the United States, and the Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina is planning events across the state to raise awareness. On Dec. 1, there will be an AIDSWalk beginning at noon, starting out from the Governmental Mall in downtown Raleigh. Then at 5 p.m., the North Carolina Museum of Art will hold a World AIDS Day candlelight vigil. Other events include an AIDS Day Program and Vigil on Nov. 28 at Shaw University from 6-8 p.m., an Interfaith Dinner, Worship Service and Candlelight Vigil in Raleigh on Nov. 29 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Edenton Street United Methodist Church, and a Black Church Week of Prayer Banquet Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church in Raleigh. To learn more about the Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina, visit www.aas-c.org. Call 834-2437 for details about the above events.
