Hooray for the Riff Raff

Hooray for the Riff Raff, Sam Doores & the Tumbleweeds

When: Sun., Feb. 6, 8 p.m. 2011
Price: $5

Two New Orleans bands gather for a celebration. Hooray for the Riff Raff is the gentler act; centered around Alynda Lee Segarra's Southern singer-songwriter material, these are no textbook coffeeshop jams. Some songs add an Eastern European essence with swinging accordions, while others go Deep South with banjos and fiddles. Sam Doores & the Tumbleweeds rely more on the percussive qualities of acoustic instruments to play country blues. Don't be surprised if the Tumbleweeds—a self-described "New Orleans street band"—set up in front of The Pinhook for a preshow set. —Corbie Hill
