Let's be honest, you can only see so much Freddy and Michael in those gruesome Halloween favorites before you become immune to gore and chainsaws. When you stop hiding behind the La-Z-Boy, it's time to find a new font of fright. The Playwrights Roundtable is stepping up with Halloween Shorts, an evening of dark magic and mischief, vampires and visions. Included are original short works written by local playwrights John Paul Middlesworth, Mark Cornell, Paul Baerman, Ken Wolpert, B. Holroyd and Annie Taft. Who knows, you may be witness to the next Lady in Black. —Christina Cass
