Both of these guys can really tell a story, make you laugh or have you crying in your beer. The Pistols and the New Electric Combo have the night off, so it's just a couple of great songwriters, their guitars and a few twangs from Scott McCall for atmosphere.

Both of these sharp-dressed bands hail from NYC, but their sounds differ. The Walkmen formed after the dissolution of the often-hailed Jonathan Fire Eater, once thought to be a "next big thing," though devoted fans would defend their attempts at Bad Seeds atmospherics and organ-heavy dirges as success enough. Now, The Walkmen retain some of that smoky room mystique, while adding more low-end rumble to things. The French Kicks come equipped with a gun belt of melodic hooks and a power-pop punch, keeping up a feverish pace. Info, 969-1400.
