Kid 606 with DJ/Rupture and Dwane Sodahberk
Cat's Cradle
Tuesday, Aug. 12, 9:30 p.m.
San Diego's Kid 606 (ne Miguel Depedro) is a hummingbird in the flock of 21st century electronic artists. With over 40 releases ranging from split 7"s to compilation appearances to full-lengths, the musician also known as Tigerboy has assaulted listeners with jagged shards of white noise, unrecognizable remixes (like an entire EP of Missy Elliott's "Get Yr Freak On" deconstructions), and seizure-like rhythms. This is the kind of show where you should find the best-sounding spot in the club and close your eyes. Opening are fellow Tigerbeat 6 (the label run by Depedro) terrorists DJ/Rupture and Dwayne Sodahberk. Call 967-9053 for details. --Finn Cohen
Eleni Mandell with Chip Robinson
Brewery
Tuesday, Aug. 12, 8:30 p.m.
Once hailed as a PJ Harvey disciple, Mandell has apparently gone country now, with a new album of twangy love songs. She does have the pipes for it, with a smoky tinge to her voice that separates her from many of the upper-register nouveau country vocalists. Raleigh's own country rock balladeer, Chip Robinson, formerly of the Backsliders, starts the show. Call 834-7018 for more information. --Chris Toenes
