George Tisdale Band

When: Sun., Jan. 27, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $5

George Tisdale is the nephew of former NBA player and jazz bassist Wayman Tisdale; in his self-titled sextet, the exuberant vocalist is joined by tuba, guitar, keys and a rhythm section. Together, they take an expansive, pop-centered view that fuses alternative and classic rock with funk, soul and hip-hop. Though songwriting may not be Tisdale's strength, the energetic ensemble's sound is singular, even when putting their unique spin on covers ranging from AC/DC and Mute Math to Gnarls Barkley and The Beatles. There's a $5 cover for the 8 p.m. show. Tisdale also plays Tuesday at The Pour House with Easter Island and Infinity Zend. That show is $3 for a 9 p.m. start. —Spencer Griffith
