George Tisdale Band, K-Hill

When: Thu., Feb. 24, 10 p.m. 2011
Price: $5

Led by the florid vocals of lead singer, guitarist and style maven George Tisdale—nephew of the late NBA veteran and accomplished jazz bassist Wayman Tisdale—this trio of funk-rock dandies is a colorful and welcoming threat to all of our supposed musical tastes. If these guys have yet to feel at home here, as a relatively new addition to North Carolina's robust budding of progressive soul eclecticism, K-Hill's hospitable pep as both a performer and loyal master of ceremonies should grant them the artists-in-residence title inside all of our hearts. Finally, a band other than The Roots that we can jam to, and one that, like The Roots, also makes the tuba look cool again. —Eric Tullis
