The new songs put longtime collaborators Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer in new waves of '80s influenced indie pop. Previous efforts have hung heavier with arrangements that copped both vintage pop and soul sounds. Nostalgic nuance can be hard to come by, but Generationals tackle it all in style, somehow incorporating throwback appeal without the schlock of retro-gazing.
