Gary Owen, Dominique, Bruce Bruce, Arnez J

When: Fri., Jan. 31, 7 p.m. 2014

There are a handful of white comics who can play to black audiences and end up crushing it. Cincinnati, Ohio-born Gary Owen stands high on that list, to the point where he's currently touring with popular black comics Bruce Bruce, Arnez J and Dominique on the Top Shelf Comedy Tour. With his ginger-haired Opie Taylor looks, Owen may appear better suited to play to the Larry the Cable Guy crowd. But considering how most of his material consists of what he finds fascinating (and baffling) about black culture—which includes talking about his black wife and his biracial children—former ComicView host Owen has won over African-American audiences quite easily. He's such a favorite in contemporary black entertainment that he also can be seen in black movies. He was part of the ensemble cast of the breakout hit Think Like a Man, and he's in Ride Along with his Think Like a Man co-star Kevin Hart. —Craig D. Lindsey
