Frightened Rabbit, Wintersleep

When: Mon., April 8, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: SOLD OUT

It's possible to see Juno Award winners Wintersleep as a natural progression from the Smashing Pumpkins' Gish, simply transposed for wintry Canadian climes. Their swirling and swelling indie rock isn't so puffed up, but it does have a similar dramatic sweep in its bristling guitars and melancholy synth washes. The melody lines intersect and spin away, miming the mathematical cast of Minus the Bear circa Planet of Ice, only with greater regality. Producer David Fridmann was on hand for 2012's Hello Hum, bringing more meat to their grandiose melancholy indie rock. Frightened Rabbit headlines, so show up early. —Chris Parker
