Abegg Trio

Chapel Hill
MEMORIAL HALL—North Carolina's college-based classical season begins with September Prelude, a three-day, three-city tour of the Triangle from Germany's Abegg Trio. The trio will play Beethoven's piano trio music in Chapel Hill (Friday, $10-$15, 8 p.m.), Durham (Saturday, Reynolds Theatre, $5-$20, 8 p.m.) and Raleigh (Sunday, Fletcher Opera Theater, $9-$25, 8 p.m.). —Grayson Currin

THE ARTSCENTER—If you're not ready to admit that prime beach weather is exiting, Don Dixon (see Sunday), Bland Simpson and Jim Wann will oblige with their homage to Carolina coastal culture. The specific flavor is pure Carolina, but the sound is immediately recognizable as beach music in the broadest sense: talking about the day's catch, riding out a storm, or showing how it's easier to shag with your toes in the sand. They move Carrboro east both Friday and Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. Tickets for each performance are $16. —Chris Toenes
