Kenny Roby's Mercy Filter
  • Kenny Roby's Mercy Filter

THE POUR HOUSE—A Kenny Roby solo show, with a feel smack between that of Ron Sexsmith and John Prine, is compelling enough. But putting Roby in the middle of a full-band ruckus is another animal entirely, with punk roots and gospel shadings allowed to bloom fully like a rock 'n' roll moonflower. The Houstons and Tony Tidwell round out the triple-bill. Tickets are $5-$7 for a 10 p.m. show —Rick Cornell

Chapel Hill
PAUL GREEN THEATRE—Get your fill of "wherefore art thous" at PlayMakers Repertory Company's interpretation of a Romeo and Juliet in a modern setting. Director Davis McCallum brings the infamous citizens of Verona to UNC Chapel Hill's campus from Sept. 26-Oct. 14. Tickets for tonight's 8 p.m. show are $10 to $40. Visit for info. —Karlie Justus

DSI COMEDY THEATER—24Live is Dirty South Improv's sixth annual comedy benefit for local charities. The proceeds will go to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA. After opening Thursday night, the marathon begins today at noon and continues until 4 a.m. Saturday. Guests include Carrboro mayor Mark Chilton and author Daniel Wallace. For more, visit or call 338-8150. —Megan Stein
