Alesana

Cat's Cradle--If you tune in to MTV over the next month or so, you just might catch a glimpse of Raleigh's prettycore Alesana, shoved neatly in between a few faith-sucking episodes of Date My Mom and Parental Control. Footage from this--the black-clad six-piece's CD release show--will be featured on an episode of the new MTV series A Day in the Life. Presumably, the show follows Alesana through the jubilant hours leading to its Cat's Cradle performance, and then showcases the on-stage unveiling of their latest disc, On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax, a record that betrays a bit of Coheed and Cambria, a lot of Underoath and smatterings of other Fuse fare. In all seriousness, though, this is competent enough popcore. If you're looking for reinvention, this isn't for you, but if you're looking for the half-time breakdown, be there at 7:30 p.m. with $8. Pit your way onto MTV. --Robbie Mackey
