The Loners
  • The Loners

Raleigh
THE LONERS
SLIM'S—The Loners are one of maybe five essential rock 'n' roll bands in this state, and their story is as potent as their two-piece, soul-soaked garage sauce. Eddie Taylor was an admitted childhood scoundrel who landed in North Carolina via the proto-alt.country band Big Joe in the mid-'90s. The band imploded and Taylor laid a bit low before meeting Chris Jones, a vinyl enthusiast and former member of Vanilla Trainwreck and The Cherry Valence, in a bookshop. They practiced rock, conquered the town and quit one another in 2003, leaving a void that several Capital City kindred spirits knew they could never fill. They're back now, and—if the last stand at their birthplace, Kings, was a funeral—they were the funeral pyre, all light and sound and electricity and essence. The Trousers open at 10 p.m. Bring $3 and thanks. —Grayson Currin
