BLUE BAYOU—This chugging D.C. blues act has been keeping it real with an electric blues drawn from Chicago's giants. They've backed John Hammond as well as Muddy Waters, and although their hot-handed guitarist Jimmy Thackeray left 20 years ago, they never lost their stride, as last year's fine Blue Moon in Your Eye demonstrates. It's the musical equivalent of Mom's cooking. Show starts at 9:30 p.m. —Chris Parker

Chapel Hill
UNC CAMPUS—What the Dickens? Grab your newsboy cap and watch as more than 40 local youth sing and dance their way through the dirty streets of London in the musical Oliver!, part of The ArtsCenter and PlayMakers Repertory Company's summer theater program. Beware of pickpockets trained by the sinister Fagin as tickets are $15, with deals for subscribers and students. Tonight's performance begins at 7 p.m. in UNC's Paul Green Theater. —Karlie Justus

MANBITES DOG—Katja Hill reprises her solo show Thursday through Saturday. This comedic spin on the working life is part of Manbites Dog's summer MUSE Festival. Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets are pay-what-you-can ($5 minimum). For info, visit or call 682-3343. —Megan Stein
