Chapel Hill
NIGHTLIGHT—These three young bands—Valley, The Naked and the Dead, Hundred Flowers—meet in the middle with well-filtered indie-rock influences. With a violin in the mix, Valley plays atmospheric rock that applies the gauze of Mogwai's Young Team and the histrionics of Slint's Spiderland. Then they split the difference between Trail of the Dead and The Arcade Fire. The Naked and the Dead corrodes The Jesus & Mary Chain girth with Spacemen 3 chemicals, and Hundred Flowers is a little like Thom Yorke's Eraser on a budget. Hey, it's the holidays, a time meant for closing your eyes and imagining. Inspirations fly at 10 p.m. —Grayson Currin

CAT'S CRADLE—Durham's Dub Addis, a long-standing staple of the Southern full-band reggae scene, has been at it for 15 years since its original members emigrated from Ethiopia. Soulful Raleigh reggae outfit Jamrock opens, with Chapel Hill's DJ Ras J on the dub plates. Tickets are $8 for a 9 p.m. start. —Chris Toenes
