CLUB 9—Fueled by a love of Latin dance and community, the non-profit El Kilombo Intergaláctico is holding a Latin dance benefit at Club 9 in Durham, beginning at 10 p.m. with a salsa lesson. RSVP at for a $5 ticket. For more info, visit or call 688-8768. —Megan Stein

HAYTI HERITAGE CENTER—Tired of hanging out with your grumpy in-laws? Get out of the house and explore the local beat. The Jambalaya Soul Slam is happening tonight at the Hayti Heritage Center. You can watch members of the Bull City Slam team, ranked among the top 25 teams in the country, or share some of your own spoken word—or even your unspoken words. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free for participating poets, $5 for students and $10 for the general public. Visit for more information. —Ashley Roberts

Chapel Hill
LOCAL 506—If Crosby, Sinatra and Garland don't make your holiday hit list, then maybe this Christmas Jam will inspire some cheer. Slated are Jimmy and the Teasers, the Pneurotics, Sister Fanny and more. But the highlight of the show is sure to be Dexter Romweber and Friends, a band with Silvertone-fueled rock chops and a penchant for vintage country, blues and rock. Rock the bells at 10 p.m. for free. —Kathy Justice
