Steven Wright

Carolina Theatre—With zingers like "Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now" and "I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she left me before we met," Steven Wright has become celebrated for a now-familiar, if inimitable, brand of wit. His deadpan delivery and affectless demeanor only add to the hilarity of his quips. In his nearly 31 years in the business, Wright has collected a Grammy nomination, an Academy Award and numerous film bits, including spoken-word parts in Reservoir Dogs and The Swan Princess. But he comes to the Carolina Theatre stage to do what he does best: stand-up comedy. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. For $69, the VIP package includes premium seats and a "Chocolate 'n' Beer Tasting" reception at 7 p.m., a fundraiser for the Carolina, courtesy of All About Beer magazine. Regular admission is $32. Visit www.carolinatheatre.org. —Belem Destefani

Raleigh
N.C. Dance Festival

Jones Auditorium at Meredith College—Of all the arts, it seems the Triangle has a soft spot for dance. We host the acclaimed American Dance Festival annually, and we're home to one of the nation's top professional ballet companies with a highly respected artistic director. But did you know we also have a touring dance festival that showcases artists from around the state? Their two-night stop in Raleigh marks the tour's halfway point. Tonight features performances by Joan Nicholas-Walker and Courtney Greer, Cindy Mancini, Natalie Marrone and Kinetic Works Dance. Tomorrow night features Cyprus Art Production, Even Exchange Dance Theater, Eleanor Smith and Kim Jones. Of these, Nicholas-Walker, Greer, Marrone, Smith and Even Exchange hail from Raleigh. Curtain both evenings is 8 p.m. Visit www.ncdancefestival.org. —Sarah Ewald
