Speaking Without Tongues
The ArtsCenter—What Hidden Voices does cannot be categorized as "theater" in the traditional sense. It employs an ensemble of artists, researchers and activists, and events staged by the group are less performance than recitations of difficult, and often overlooked, stories by the very people whose lives the stories are taken from. Speaking Without Tongues, the group's latest effort, explores domestic violence within a diversity of ethnicities, speaking truth about that which is facilitated by silence. A photography exhibit by domestic violence survivors accompanies the show. Lynden Harris directs. The show runs tonight and tomorrow at 8 p.m., and admission is by donation. A reception occurs tonight, from 6 to 8 p.m. Additional shows are Oct. 21 and 28 at NCCU and UNC. For more information, visit www.hiddenvoices.org. —Vernal Coleman
