Ah, to be a young girl in the '90s. It's finally acceptable, even enviable, to be a female youth in our society. Where "girl power" and "the new technology" meet, you've got gURL.com, a Web site dedicated to the hipness and humanity of female adolescence. This award-winning site receives more than 40 million hits per month, with young ladies voicing their concerns, questions and advice about things like dating, menstruation, body image and mental health. The site's creators, Esther Drill, Heather McDonald and Rebecca Odes, have cut and pasted a great deal of this information into Deal With It!, a guide for girls that forgoes the earthy, crunchy, gooey good-feelings corn of Our Bodies, Ourselves, and spins the extremely useful information into an awesomely stylized format that hip young things will appreciate. As an added bonus, the authorial trio will be at UNC-Chapel Hill's Carroll Hall Friday, Feb. 25, 8 p.m., to discuss gURLs and their handiwork.
