Foghorn Stringband

When: Thu., March 28, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $11-19

Foghorn Stringband's members are traditionalists so in thrall to '20s and '30s string music, you half expect a train to roll past as they play. The group met at the National Oldtime Fiddlers Contest in 2000. Last year brought their sixth album, Outshine the Sun, which blends lively instrumentals with vocal tracks featuring Caleb Kander's crusty tenor and two terrific new female singers, bassist Nadine Landry and guitarist Rebecca Williams. The album's mountain music echoes its Celtic antecedents, with less of the old-timey rag flavor of prior releases. —Chris Parker
