Fishbone

When: Tue., Sept. 11, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $12-15

Emblematic of the '80s underground's broad tastes, Fishbone blends frantic reggae, funk, hip-hop, punk and metal rife with goofy irreverence, sociopolitical commentary and party jams. They never received the mass audience that seemed within their reach, but their energetic musical polyglot remains as vital and influential today as it was 30 years ago. They also remain an indomitable live act. Frontman Angelo Moore is a human whirlwind; the band is simultaneously tight and loose. Last year's Crazy Glue EP was great, particularly reggae-funk closer "Weed, Beer, Cigarettes." Their colorful history is the subject of the 2010 documentary Everyday Sunshine, released earlier this year on DVD. —Chris Parker
